A little old, a little new is a collection of post-Katrina work by J Renee, a master artist whose reverse glass painting style and emotive subject matter, can be traced back to the early 16th century Europe, early 18th century China and is a popular art form in Contemporary Senegal, West Africa.
Renée's work is in the collections of the Southern University of Louisiana in Baton Rouge; the W. E. B. DuBois Museum in Ghana; and the McKenna Museum of African - American Art. She holds a BFA from Xavier University of Louisiana, New Orleans. JRenée currently lives in South Carolina, where she was a part of the SC Biennial 2011 at the Contemporary Center of the Arts

Malaika Favorite is an acclaimed visual artist and poet who was born in the small rural town of Geismar, Louisiana.Her poems and art reflect different emotions and themes: joy, celebration, dreams, sadness, anger, frustration, and happiness, as well as social and political issues. She creatively turns “found objects” into mixed media artwork of cultural expression. An exhibition featuring the flag paintings and mixed media works of Louisiana native Malaika Favorite created between 1984 and 2012. The exhibit includes several pieces that reflect her dual career as a poet and visual artist. Through her flag art, Favorite chronicles historical events and her personal experiences growing up black and female in rural south Louisiana.
